- Wow! What a great tournament girls!! I am so proud to be your coach! You are working hard, you are working together and you are working as a team! Great job!
- We started the tournament off with a hard fought 0-6 loss to the Avalanche, but were much more competitive than in our previous game with them. Ghini was outstanding and earned the MVP of the game award. Way to go Ghini!
- Game 2 was offensive explosion time! Janey, who wore the heart for the tournament, and who was our game MVP, led the way with a hat trick. We led all the way, holding period leads of 1-0 and 3-2, before breaking the game wide open in the third. Hailey chipped in with a goal and a pair of assists, and we also received goals by Elena (her first of the year!), Erin, Veronica (recovering from a cold) and Naomi. , 6 different girls scored!
- Game 3 was a bit of a sleepy affair at 7:15 AM, but the girls played hard. Although we were bit flat, Hailey, our game MVP, showed some spark and had a goal to go along with an outstanding effort. Veronica chipped in with one and again had a strong game and Kyra moved up to centre for a few shifts and scored the winner!
- For the semi-final game against Ridge Meadows, we introduced The Funky Chicken! The girls wanted to see the parents also do the Funky Chicken, so we said if they win, the parents would oblige. A very solid defensive effort, led by superb goaltending by Ghini (5 breakaway saves) resulted in a shutout. Ghini was helped out by a very strong showing from Lauryn, Kyra, Freida, Sierra, Kate and Megumi (our game MVP) on defence. Great job girls! Hailey and Janey scored the first two goals and Naomi finished off a nice passing play with Hailey to seal the 3-0 victory. The parents came in the dressing room after the game and did an awesome Funky Chicken for all the girls! Those were some nice moves parents!
- The final game made all of us proud! The parent support was LOUD and PROUD! For the first time, we were not intimidated by the Avalanche. We took a so what attitude into the game. The Avalanche are bigger than us? So what! The Avalanche are faster than us? So what! The Avalanche have not allowed a goal in the tournament and have outscored the opposition 38-0? So what! We know we are getting better everyday and we are ready to compete!
- And compete we did. So many of our girls played their best game of the season. Ghini was rock solid. Freida had a very strong game, consistently clearing our zone with hard passes and protecting the front of the net. Best game of the year Freida! Lauryn, Megumi and Kate were pinning machines and did not let anyone free in front. Sierra consistently angled the Avalanche to the boards, retrieved pucks, and made heads up passes.
- Veronica opened the scoring on an assist from Janey and for the first time this season the Avalanche trailed in a game and for the first time in the tournament, they gave up a goal. We were down 2-1 after the first, but were still playing hard. Jessie was dominant on the wall, clearing her zone and skating through the Avalanche. Best game of the year Jessie! Teaghan also had her best game of the year and was a constant thorn in the side of the Avalanche. Great pressure Teaghan!
- After falling behind 4-1, Elena cleared the zone and Veronica picked up the loose puck on a breakaway and scored to make it 4-2. Now it got real interesting. The next line of Janey, Naomi and Jessie put great pressure on the Avalanche and came within a whisker of making it 4-3. Then Hailey, Erin and Teaghan rolled onto the ice and came close as well. Erin, playing her strongest game, cleared the zone and pressured the Avalanche with her speed. Well done Erin!
- The Avalanche scored a late second period goal to go up 5-2 heading into the third, but our girls did not give up! Great third period girls!
- Veronica earned the heart award at the end of the tournament for her great work ethic this past week and for leading by example!
- We really missed Kyra, who fell ill overnight, but her teammates rallied and we could here her cheering us on!
- Girls and parents, thanks for a fantastic weekend! You were all a pleasure to be around this weekend and the best part for me wasn’t the results, it was the smiles on the faces and the effort on the ice! Keep up the great work girls!!!! , ,
BETTER EVERYDAY!
