Richmond Girls Ice Hockey is very pleased to have the honor of hosting the BC Hockey Female Midget A Provincial Championships on March 10-14 at the Richmond Ice Centre. This is the first time that Richmond will have hosted Female Provincials in any division. These games were originally scheduled to take place in Taylor, BC. Recently BC Hockey advised that their bid was withdrawn and invited other associations to submit their bids. RGIH reacted quickly and subsequently was awarded the games. John and Pat Korenic will be chairing the organizing committee with the support of the Midget 1 Devils parent group.
"We see this as an excellent opportunity to showcase female hockey as a growing sport in our community and we are proud to be part of this growth. We will be providing our younger players with an opportunity to watch some exciting female hockey, giving those players a goal to reach for in the future. An added advantage for our Association holding the Provincials in Richmond is that RGIH players will have the chance to come out and cheer on our own very competitive Richmond Midget 1 Devils team" commented Patti Perkins, RGIH President.
The Championships will include 7 teams from across the province including the host team, our Midget 1 Devils. The Devils have participated in the Midget A Provincials for the past 2 years and won Silver last year in Salmon Arm.
The Opening Ceremonies will be held on March 10 on the Coliseum rink at 7:30pm followed by the first Devils game at 8:00pm. Come out to support the Devils and enjoy the Provincials experience.

DARREN BERG WITH SOME OF HIS LITTLE BUDDIES IN AFGHANISTAN
On behalf of my fellow Canadian Soldiers and children of Afghanistan, I would like to thank all the players, their families, coaches and referees of Richmond Girls Ice Hockey for your very generous contributions. Your photos, cards and letters of support mean alot to us all. While out on foot patrols, we have been handing out pens, note books, toys and candy to the kids, who flock around us like we're handing out million dollar bills! The smiles your donations put on the faces of these young, underpriviledged kids is heartwarming. But the Afghan children aren't the only ones smiling lately! The troops have also been very satisfield and content indulging in all the snacks and homemade cookies you have sent us....a nice taste of home.
Our mission in Afghanistan is to improve the lifestyle of an unfortunate nation, and with the support and encouragement from thoughtful folks like yourselves, we hope to make it happen.
Thanks again to all of you at RGIH from all of us in Afghanistan.
